Calls for a focus on faith and unity.
On Thursday, President Biden addressed the National Prayer Breakfast for the first time since taking office. Every president has attended the national breakfast since its inception during President Dwight Eisenhower’s administration in 1953. This year, the event was entirely virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
During his remarks, the president called on Americans to put aside the growing division that faces the nation and to unify over common beliefs. President Biden said, “For so many in our nation, this is a dark, dark time. So where do we turn? Faith. Kierkegaard wrote, ‘Faith sees best in the dark.’ I believe that to be true. For me, in the darkest moments faith provides hope and solace, it provides clarity and purpose as well. It shows the way forward.”
